Google reneges on Allo privacy feature
For most people using a free service in exchange for personal data is a fair tradeoff. However this decision shows very clearly who is in control at Google when it comes to a decision on advertising potential vs user privacy. The latter loses every time within Google, even if they have to backtrack on promises made earlier publicly.
Just like Microsoft cannot make itself move past Office, Google can’t seem to make itself move past ads. If VR/AR is the next big thing, then Google might miss that boat if it does not wean itself off it’s data binge and aim to provide a minimally intrusive user experience.
